Milan, Gibraltar Police), good very fine or better and rare Estimate £ 80-120 Station Sergeant Anthony J. Milan was one of only three Station Sergeants, and one of a total of 21 current and retired members, of the Gibraltar Police Force to be awarded the Colonial Police Long Service Medal in 1951. The total strength of the Force at the time was fewer than 100 officers. Gibraltar played a pivotal role during World War II as a defence position at the mouth of the Mediterranean and a staging post in the supply of men and materials for the 8th Army in North Africa, and the Middle East, and a major role in the defence of Malta. Gibraltar was the subject of constant German attacks throughout the War.
