Durham L.I.´, with integral top riband bar, light contact marks, very fine, mounted as originally worn (6) Estimate £ 280-320 Colonel Walter De Garis Martin, T.D., born Genoa, Italy, 1881; served as a Corporal with the 145th Company 32nd Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa before being commissioned into the 5th Volunteer Battalion Durham Light Infantry, 1906; Honorary Captain 9th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, 19.5.1911; Adjutant from 7.10.1914; Acting Major attached 2nd Garrison Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers, 16.8.1917; Lieutenant-Colonel Officer Commanding 9th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, 1924; retired Brevet Colonel 24.3.1928; re-engaged as a Temporary Major Pioneer Corps (T.A.) for service during the Second World War.
