Bermuda Early Letters and Handstamps 1684 (3 Jan.) entire letter from Joseph Stove to John Wise in London, headed "Barmudas" and endorsed "Bermodas 3 30 1686" (possibly date of reply); crease and some light staining though a very early letter from the island. Photo Estimate £ 4,500-5,500 Note: The writer asks for assistance in the release of his brother Benjamin, captured by Barbary pirates and being held for ransom of £200. He lists gold and silver bullion etc., which he is forwarding in the "Constant Love" to pay the ransom. Benjamin Stove was finally released. provenance: Morris Ludington, June 1999
