Somaliland 1901-04, The Somaliland Campaigns Four expeditions had to be instituted against the "Mad Mullah" and his followers who were spreading death and destruction against the peaceful Somali. Indian stamps were used on correspondence Third Expedition, October 1902 - June 1903 1903 (11 June) 1a. on 9p. "soldier´s and seamen´s" envelope to London, cancelled by "base office/berbera" c.d.s. with arrival datestamps alongside with Aden transit d.s. (13.6) on reverse. Upon arrival the envelope returned to sender, with manuscript "Gone" on reverse, via the Dead Letter Office Bombay (14.8) and despatched to Somaliland from the Dead Letter Office with Unclaimed Letter label affixed at left (18.8) and showing, on reverse, Sea Post Office (22.8), Base Office Berbera single-ring (29.8) and F.P.O. 46 single-ring (Upper Sheikh) datestamps.
