Somaliland 1901-04, The Somaliland Campaigns Four expeditions had to be instituted against the "Mad Mullah" and his followers who were spreading death and destruction against the peaceful Somali. Indian stamps were used on correspondence Third Expedition, October 1902 - June 1903 1903 (30 Apr.) 1a. on 2a.6p. stationery envelope to London, cancelled by fine strike of "f.p.o. no 44" single-ring d.s. and showing, on reverse, "base office/obbia" single-ring d.s. (14.5), Aden (16.5) and arrival (29.5) datestamps. A fine cover from this rare Office. Also a pen and ink drawing of the Marconi Detachment, Royal Navy, signed "G.K. Jones from a sketch by W.T. Maud". Photo Estimate £ 400-500 Note: The sender of this cover, Lieutenant A.E. Silvertop R.N., commanded the experimental Marconi Detachment which arrived in Somaliland in February 1903 to test the operational use of wireless telegraphy on the lines of communication. F.P.O.
