Somaliland 1901-04, The Somaliland Campaigns Four expeditions had to be instituted against the "Mad Mullah" and his followers who were spreading death and destruction against the peaceful Somali. Indian stamps were used on correspondence Third Expedition, October 1902 - June 1903 1903 (17 Feb.) unstamped envelope to England, marked "Field Service. No stamps", showing manuscript "T" in purple with the only recorded example of semi-circular "base office obbia/due/one anna" h.s. (Type FF D1) alongside and, on reverse, "base office/obbia", Aden (21.2 and 23.2) and arrival datestamps; the envelope with tear across top left corner. Very rare.
