Victoria, Pattern ´Una and the Lion´ Five-Pounds of Crown, in silver, 1839, by William Wyon, young head left, front fillet with left facing scroll in five waves, eight leaves on rear fillet victoria d:g: britanniarum regina f:d:, w.wyon.ra in raised letters on truncation, rev. ´Una and the Lion´, date mdcccxxxix below, dirige deus gressus meos, edge plain (ESC.-; L&S 26), even dark tone, almost as struck, a few faint hairlines, excessively rare Estimate £ 12,000-15,000 provenance Lingford, Glendining, 24-26 October 1950, lot 552 Willis, Glendining, 7 October 1991, lot 590 Linecar and Stone listed five instances when such a coin appeared on the market between 1922 and 1966. This specimen may be the Murdoch example (Sotheby 15-19 March 1904, lot 545), later bought by Lingford and then acquired by Willis at the Lingford sale in 1950.
