Mary (1553-1554), Sovereign, 15.49g, 1553 (MDLIII), privy mark, pomegranate both sides, annulet stops, Queen crowned enthroned holding orb and sceptre, portcullis at feet, rev. square topped shield in centre of Tudor rose, within double tressure (C.f. Schneider 704 - same obverse die ; N.1956; S.2488), an exceptional round coin, strong portrait of Mary, legend a little weak to right of portcullis, light surface marks on robes, attractive golden lustre, good very fine/almost extremely fine, rare thus Estimate £ 9,000-11,000
