William I (1066-1087), Penny, 1.33g, Two stars type (BMC.5), Romney, Aelmar, crowned facing bust within inner circle, star to each side, +pillelm rex an, legend starting at twelve o´clock, rev. cross bottonée over quadrilateral, annulet in centre, +aelmaer on rvme, ae ligate (N.845; S.1254), pleasantly toned, small surface crack on reverse by central pellet, good very fine Estimate £ 500-600 provenance Bought Baldwin, 29 January 1945 Romney pennies of William I after BMC1, are scarce. SCBI lists one BMC V penny only for Romney. With ticket in the hand of AH Baldwin.
