Auction: 7023 - The Glenister Collection of British Coins & other Ancient, English & Foreign Coins & Comm Medals
Lot: 441
Portrait of a girl, by Leonard Charles Wyon, head in profile to left, her hair at front parted in the centre of her forehead and brushed down in front of the ear and gathered behind, her hair at the back plaited and gathered in a bun, signed and dated low right ´L C Wyon Jan 24 1844´, black, white and red chalk on white paper, approx. 19cm. x 13cm., framed Estimate £ 60-100 In the album of Leonard Wyon drawings sold at Christie´s, 12 November 1997, lot 17, now in a private collection in the U.S.A., page 4 was blank. The preceeding drawing was dated 12 December 1843 and the next was dated 9 February 1844. It is possible therefore that this is the missing drawing from that album. It is also possible that this is a portrait of Miss F. Edmonds, a friend of Wyon´s sister Louisa, whose wish it was that her brother and friend might marry. There is an undated portrait of Miss Edmunds, three-quarters right, with identical hair style, and the same size as this drawing, on page 8 of the same album.
