Nicholas II, Marriage to Princess Alice of Hesse-Darmstadt, 1894, silver medal by A. Vasyutinsky, bust of Nicholas II, in uniform, and Princess Alice, left, signed AB at end of legend, rev. Nicholas, in uniform of the Regiment of Hussars of the Imperial Garde-du-Corps, and Princess Alice, wearing crown and veil, at the head of the wedding procession before the doors of the Church of the Winter Palace, 72mm. (Smirnov 1088), good very fine Estimate £ 200-300 The marriage took place on 26 November 1894, and Princess Alice immediately converted to the Orthodox faith and took the name Alexandra Feodorovna. The wedding procession was small, as depicted in this medal, and not as depicted in the large painting by Laurits Regner Tuxen now in the Royal Collection. The figures immediately behind the Emperor are, from left to right, Christian of Denmark, the Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna, the Empress Marie Feodorovna, the Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, and the Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovitch.
