The King of The Belgians British War and Victory Medals (Lieut, E.L. Bartleman.); India General Service 1908-35, G.V.R., one clasp, Afghanistan N.W.F. 1919 (Lieut. E.L. Bartleman, M.G.C.); 1939-1945 Star; Atlantic Star; Italy Star; War Medal, surname officially corrected on BWM, otherwise nearly extremely fine, together with the related miniature awards, including the Defence Medal, card box of issue for the Second War awards, addressed to ´Surgeon Lt. Commander R.N.V.R. E.L. Bartleman, Alexander Square, London S.W.3´, and Admiralty enclosure; Territorial Force Discharge Certificate, dated 13.8.1915; and a letter to the recipient from Commander in Chief in India, on the occasion of his retirement due to the reduction of the Indian Army, dated 3.10.1922 (7) Estimate £ 240-280 Surgeon Lieutenant Commander Edmund Leslie Bartleman, enlisted as 3049 Private 2/7 (City of London) Battalion, London Regiment; Commissioned Second Lieutenant, 12th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, 14.8.1915, and seconded Machine Gun Corps; served on the Western Front as Machine Gun Officer, 41st Battalion, Machine Gun Corps, 28.1.1916; Commissioned 1/5 Ghurka Rifles, Indian Army, 14.5.1916; saw action during the 3rd Afghan War; promoted Captain, 1919; retired under the reduction of the Indian Army, 1922; Medical Student, Edinburgh University 1923-28 (Gold Medallist in Experimental & Chemical Physiology); Graduated MB, CH.B. 1928; House Surgeon Carlisle Infirmary, 1929; House Surgeon, West London Hospital, 1930-32; Casualty & Outpatient Officer, 1932-33; Clinical Assistant Physician, Miller General Hospital, 1932-39; treated H.M. King Leopold of the Belgians on a visit to Britain, 1937 ´In view of the reports that the King of the Belgians is unwell, the following official bulletin is issued from Welbeck Abbey: "His Majesty has had a slight cold and is now recovering. Signed E.L. Bartleman, M.B."´ (The Times, 6.12.1937 refers); General Practise, Mayfair, 1939; Served aboard RN Hospital Ship Haslar, 1939-41; HMS Hawkins, 1942-43; HMS Attacker, 1943-45. The Admiralty enclosure with the Second War awards lists the recipient as being entitled to 4 Stars, Medals, Clasps, and Emblems.
