x An Officer´s Jacket of the 1st Bengal Light Cavalry An extremely rare jacket, of French Grey cloth with orange collar and cuffs, the jacket, collar and cuffs edged with silver French braid, 20 loops of silver Russia braid in front, secured by three rows of white metal buttons inscribed 1 CAVALRY / LASWARREE, a double loop of the same braid on each shoulder, the collar, cuffs, false pockets and backseams richly figured with narrow silver Russia braid (lining replaced, collar lacking lining, small repairs, probably in-service, to right sleeve) See illustration Note: The absence of interspersing braid between the Russia loops on the front suggest that the jacket was made in the 1820s rather than later. The Laswarree battle-honour was not conferred on the 1st Bengal Light Cavalry until February 1829, which would indicate that buttons previously worn were replaced in service. The colour of the cloth is "Cambridge" blue, rather than the clear pale blue later worn by the light cavalry regiments of the HEIC, and the facings, though officially described as orange in Dress Regulations, are in fact almost scarlet.
