India General Service 1908-35, G.V.R., 1st ´Kaisar-i-Hind´ type, Calcutta Mint issue, one clasp, Abor 1911-12 (1217 Trooper S.B. Hardwicke Assam Valley Lt: Horse), nearly extremely fine and rare to unit Estimate £ 450-500 1217 Trooper S.B. Hardwicke served with the Assam Valley Light Horse, Dismounted Detachment during the operations in Abor: ´The members of this detachment showed a most soldier-like spirit in volunteering, in many cases at great personal inconvenience and pecuniary loss, to accompany the expedition. They underwent considerable hardship in a most cheerful spirit and played an important part in the taking of the Kekar-Monying position. Captain C.L. Lovell commanded the detachment in an efficient manner´ (Major-General Hamilton Bower´s despatch, dated 11.4.1912, refers). Provenance: Ex-Magor Collection, 2003.
