Goldie Taubman Royal Irish Regt), engraved in upright serif capitals, minor edge nicks, good very fine, with two fine Masonic ´jewels´ for the ´Lodge East Africa No. 3007´, both by Spencer, London, one in silver-gilt and enamels (Hallmarks for London 1899), the other in silver-gilt (Hallmarks for London 1903), gold (9ct.) and enamels, the reverse engraved ´Presented to Wor: Bro: E. Goldie-Taubman in appreciation of his valuable services to the Lodge as W.M.´ (3) Estimate £ 500-550 Captain Ernest Harcourt Goldie-Taubman, born 1868, son of Sir John Senhouse Goldie-Taubman, and cousin of Sir George Dashwood Goldie-Taubman, K.C.M.G., the ´Founder of Nigeria´; later resident of the Nunnery, Isle of Man, educated at Cheltenham; Honorary Captain 5th Battalion Royal Irish Regiment, 1892; served in the British East Africa Protectorate from 1892; appointed Second-in-Command of the Forces of the Sultan of Zanzibar, 11.11.1895, and took part in the operations against the Mazrui Rebels in East Africa, 1895-96; present at the Mazrui-Baruk Rebellion; re-appointed Second-in-Command, 2.11.1897 (Zanzibar, Order of Hamondieh, 3rd Class and Order of El Aliyeh, 2nd Class); appointed Commandant of Police, Zanzibar; appointed H.M.´s Inspector of Prisons, England and Wales; Deputy Governor of H.M.´s Prison, Brixton; one of the Petitioners for the Warrant of the Lodge East Africa No. 3007, and the 1st Senior Warden of the Lodge; installed as Master of the Lodge, 1906; J.P. for the Isle of Man, 1929.
