MEDALS FROM THE GOLDIE, GOLDIE-TAUBMAN FAMILY The Four Clasp M.G.S. to Captain, Later General G.L. Goldie, 66th Foot, Who Also Received the Field Officer´s Gold Medal for Albuhera, One of the Bloodiest Battles of the Peninsula Campaign Military General Service 1793-1814, four clasps, Talavera, Busaco, Vittoria, Pyrenees (G.L. Goldie, Capt. 66th Foot.), nearly extremely fine Estimate £ 2,200-2,500 General Sir George Leigh Goldie, K.C.B., commissioned Cornet 6th Dragoon Guards, 1803; Lieutenant 1805; Captain 66th Foot, 1808; acted as Brigade Major to Lieutenant-General Hart in the northern district of Ireland; served in the Peninsula from March 1809-November 1813, including the passage of the Douro, lines of Torres Vedras, affairs of Arroyo, de Molino, and Campo Mayor; severely wounded whilst serving in the Pyrenees, 30.8.1813, by a musket ball which lodged in his lungs - this wound was long considered mortal; Aide-de-Camp to his brother, General A.J. Goldie; received a Field Officer´s Small Gold Medal for Albuhera (Brevet Major); advanced Major-General 1846; Lieutenant-General 1854; appointed to Colonelcy of the 35th Foot, 1861; promoted General the following year. George Leigh Goldie was the Uncle of Thomas Leigh Goldie. (See following lot)
