Spong, Royal Navy 1939-1945 Star; Atlantic Star; War Medal, extremely fine, with named condolence slip and card box of issue, named to ´Ms A.W. Spong´ Documentation Relating to Private R.A. Spong Three Prisoners of War Postcards from the recipient from No.2 P.O.W. Camp, Thailand, all addressed to ´Mr. & Mrs. A.W.R. Spong, Two Brewers, 40 Monmouth Street, London W.C.2´, one undated, two dated 16.1.1944 and 23.5.1944; a photographic image of the Spong Family (5) Estimate £ 60-80 D-28671 Private Albert William Robert Spong, born 1899; enlisted in the 6th (Reserve) Battalion, London Regiment, 26.12.1917, and called up for service 31.12.1917; served with the Sussex Yeomanry; Later Royal Sussex Regiment; transferred to Reserve 2.1.1920. In Civilian Life Spong was the Landlord of the ´Two Brewers´ Public House near Leicester Square- it is still there to this day. C/KX 137307 Peter Arthur Spong, the son of A.W.R. Spong and brother of R.A. Spong, served as Stoker 1st Class in H.M.S. Sheffield during the Second World War; died 11.11.1942 whilst Sheffield was involved in the Allied Invasion of French North Africa in Operation Torch, and is commemorated on Chatham Naval Memorial. Private Robert Arthur Spong was the son of A.W.R. Spong and brother of P.A. Spong.
