Defence of Jellalabad 1842, 1st ´Mural Crown´ type, edge regimentally impressed (Serjeant John Fitch XIII. P.A.L.I.), contact marks, nearly very fine, with later steel clip and silver straight bar suspension Estimate £ 650-750 517 Sergeant John Fitch, born Essex; joined 13th Foot, 1825; Corporal 1839; ´present at the storming of Ghuznee in July 1839..... present at the several engagements in forcing the Passes from Cabool to Jellalabad in 1841, and in the defence of the latter fortress in 1841-42, present in the several engagements at Jellalabad 7th April 1842, Jugdullock, 8th September 1842; Tazeen, 13th September 1842; and capture of Cabool, 15th September 1842´ (Service Papers refer, and also confirm entitlement to Ghuznee and Cabul Medals); Sergeant 1841; discharged 1847, after 21 years and 18 days service with the Colours. Provenance: J.B. Hayward, November 1975 Sergeant Fitch´s Cabul Medal was sold by Seaby, January 1977.
