South Africa 1834-53 (Capt. W.M. King. Rl. Arty.), good very fine Estimate £ 550-600 Captain William Magrath King, born 1825; appointed a Gentleman Cadet, Royal Military Academy Woolwich, 1841; commissioned Second Lieutenant Royal Artillery, 1844; Lieutenant 1846; served during the Second Kaffir War, mainly on the frontier with the 3rd Company 7th Battalion Royal Artillery, April-November 1846, including commanding the artillery during the defence of Fort Peddie, 27th-28th May 1846; advanced to Captain, Officer Commanding 8th Company 12th Battalion, Malta, 1856; died 1859, whilst still serving in this capacity.
