Stephens, Lanc: Fus:); King´s South Africa 1901-02, two clasps (4159 Pte. J. Stephens, Lanc: Fus:); Khedive´s Sudan 1898-1908, one clasp, Khartoum (4159 Pte. J. Stephens. 2nd. Lan. Fus.), toned, edge prepared for engraving on last, generally good very fine (4) Estimate £ 380-420 4159 Private John Stephens, born Salford, Lancashire; enlisted Lancashire Fusiliers, 1892; served in the Sudan campaign before transferring to the Army Reserve, 1899; re-called for service in the Boer War and took part in the action at Spion Kop (24.1.1900), where he was originally reported as ´killed in action´, but in fact was wounded and taken prisoner of war; released from Watervaal Prisoner of War camp, 6.6.1900; discharged 10.8.1908.
