x Queen Adelaide, The Metropolitan Society of Florists & Amateurs, Silver Prize Medal by W J Taylor Estimate £ 250-350 Previously known from a single specimen in copper in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. A very rare instance of the Queen being depicted on a medal in her own right. All other medals with her portrait, for example for the accession and coronation, show the Queen´s portrait conjoined with that of her husband Wiliam IV, or her portrait is the reverse to his portrait on the obverse. The prize was presumably never awarded and so the intended prize medals were clearly never produced, and this unnamed medal appears to be the only silver example known.
