The large silver coins that started to be minted in 1690 are sometimes called Kurush (or Piastre) and sometimes Zolota. Kenneth MacKenzie referred to them as Zolotas in his notes, and Pamuk (A Monetary History of the Ottoman Empire, CUP, 2000, p.160) also suggests they were named after the Polish Zolotas that circulated widely at this time, hence I have used this term.
