x British Columbia and Vancouver Island Postal History Two undated envelopes ex the O´Reilly correspondence, the first to Fort Yale showing large "unpaid" h.s. and with an albino part strike of a New Westminster c.d.s. on reverse, the second (small faults) to Hope bearing uncancelled British Columbia 1867 3d. pale blue pair Estimate £ 150-200 Note: Peter O´Reilly (1827-1905) was raised in Ireland and served in the Irish Revenue Police before being honourably discharged in 1857. He arrived in Victoria in 1859 and was appointed stipendiary magistrate for Langley District where one of his responsibilities was to arrange for the orderly hanging of condemned criminals. In 1860 he was named assistant gold commissioner for the Similkameen region. In 1871 he discharged judicial matters, collected taxes and acted as Indian agent in the remote region of Omineca
