x British Columbia and Vancouver Island Postal History 1858 (18 Mar.) sailor´s envelope "From N. Woodhead, Gunner RMA, H.M.S. Satellite, Vancouver Island" to England, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and bearing G.B. 1s. Stars cancelled "29" on arrival in London, the reverse with London (31.5) and Newark (31.5) c.d.s.; the envelope a little soiled and creased, though a rare concessionary rate cover. Photo Estimate £ 1,800-2,000 Note: H.M.S. "Satellite" was a new corvette under command of Capt. James C. Prevost. The ship had 21 muzzle-loading cast iron guns and a complement of 325 men H.M.S. "Satellite" was stationed at Esquimalt to assist Governor James Douglas in the dispute over title to San Juan Island which arose from the Oregon Treaty on 15 June, 1846
