Canada Soldier´s Covers 1862 (21 Nov.) envelope "From 2nd. Class Army Schoolmaster J. Chambers Sc. Fus. Gds." at Montreal to Bray, Ireland, bearing 1859 1c. rose pair cancelled "21" and showing despatch c.d.s. in lower left corner and arrival c.d.s. below the pair. Rare and attractive. Photo Estimate £ 1,200-1,500 Note: The 2nd. Battalion Scots Fusilier Guards went to Canada in 1861. They stayed until 1864 on garrison duty on St. Helens Island, Montreal, from where this letter was written The 1862 Canadian Post Office Guide stated "Non-commissioned Officers, Embodied Pensioners, Seamen and Soldiers, and Army Schoolmasters of all but first class, while employed in Her Majesty´s Service, can send and receive letters at the rate of two cents". The guide also stated that all soldiers´ and seamens´ letters were conveyed between Canada and the U.K. by the Canadian line of steamers
