x CANADA Registration Stamps Two Cents Covers 1888 (5 Mar.) envelope from Arthur, Ont. to Baltimore, U.S.A., bearing 2c. orange and Small Queen 3c. orange each cancelled with cork obliterators and with the 2c. additionally tied by two strikes of the "R" in oval h.s., despatch c.d.s. alongside and the reverse with Toronto c.d.s. (5.3) and two straight-line arrival d.s. for 6 and 8 March; the envelope with a couple of small tears at top though an attractive example of the short-lived anomalous 2c. registration rate to the U.S.A., effective 1 March to 30 April 1888. Photo Estimate £ 500-600 Note: The registration rate to the U.S.A. was reduced to 2c. on 1 March 1888 but reverted to 5c. on 1 May 1888, when it was realised that the U.S. rate had remained at 10c.
