x CANADA The Small Queen Issue 1891 Essays Submitted by the Canadian Bank Note Engraving and Printing Co., Montreal Die Proof 2c. in green on India paper, die sunk on card (85x118mm.) handstamped "sample.+proof-impression" in violet at foot. Fine and rare. Photo Estimate £ 600-800 Note: This company applied for a Government printing contract in 1891. Essays were prepared by means of the steel engraving and lithography processes for this unsuccessful bid. The C.B.N.C. was liquidated in April 1894. The British American bank Note Co. purchased the assets, including the essay. In 1896 the 2c. essay was used for a postcard provenance: "Scenic", 1982
