Argentina Buenos Ayres An extensive collection of the postal history of Buenos Ayres in 18 volumes commencing with some maps including 1764 (c.) Bellin map of the city (hand-coloured), 1770´s cover fronts with "bvenos/ayres" and "Bs.AIRs." handstamps, a selection of covers and entires from the early 1800´s bearing "buenos/ayres" in red, mail to the U.K. including step-type ship letter for Brixham, Cowes (2), Dartmouth, Deal (3), Dover, Falmouth (5 red, blue), Gravesend, Holyhead, Kingsbridge, Penznace (2), Plymouth (5), Poole (2), Portsmouth (red), Liverpool (7), boxed (3) including 1824 entire to Bath bearing boxed India Letter Liverpool applied in error and overstruck by correct boxed Ship Letter Liverpool with a further strike alongside, unframed Cowes (with Ship Agent handstamp), Liverpool, Margate, boxed New Romney, Guernsey scroll on 1822 wrapper addressed to London, 1828 large wrapper registered to Montevideo, 1830´s covers to Bordeaux with boxed "pays d´outre mer" (7) including "...par le havre", 1841 "postage not paid/to london" in red, 1845 entire to London with a fine strike of "forwarded by/c&w.d seymour & co/cover of cork"; numerous Anglo-French accountancy marks with boxed "colonies/&c art.13" (16) with British Post Office "buenos ayres" c.d.s. plus a similar sent from Montevideo (2), "colonies/art-18" (10) with British Post Office c.d.s., only in use in 1856, "G.B./1f60c" (74), one from Venezuela; "fr/2f.20c." (3) plus another in combination with "FR/2f 96c", 1869 "F.48" on envelope to Hannover, 1870 underpaid entires to Genoa including "F.56" and Italian Postage Due (2), 1849 entire to Genoa with "via/de mare/(a)", 1855, 1856 and 1864 "paid/at/buenos ayres" Crowned circle, double Atlantic crossing covers (25) one bearing "55/in u.s. notes", another with G.B. 4d. and 10d. tied by mail bag seal cancellation, 1857 entire with a superb strike of oval "forwarded by/ramon leon sanchez/cartagena", 1861-66 entires bearing a good strike of French "confederation-argentine" octagonal datestamp (3), 1863-64 "conf. argentine/saintonge" octagonal datestamp (9), 1865-66 "con. argentine/carmel" octagonal datestamp (2), "buenos ayres" octagonal datestamp (8) four with Napoleon frankings, one with Bordeaux franking (large part cover only). 1866 French packet "K No.1" c.d.s. (17), packets "J1" (5) one with Ceres adhesives, "J2" (4) one with Ceres adhesives, "J3" (3), "J4", "J5", 1863 covers to Boston with fine strikes of "ship/4" (2); 1866-72 British Post Office "buenos ayres/paid" c.d.s. (5), Great Britain stamps including 1862-64 1/- single franking, 1866 1/6d. franking cover to Vienna with handstruck "2" in red, 1867 cover to Bordeaux with sixteen 1d. red, 1868 1/8d. franking entire to New York, double Atlantic crossing, 1/- single franking to Scotland, 1871 1/5d. franking to Barcelona, 1875 1/4d. franking to Naples, some loose adhesives with values to 2/- (2) and 5/-; several covers to Italy with Postage Dues affixed with some good covers; also some early stampless local covers. A very good collection with great strength in depth, many better markings and covers; condition is mixed in places, an ideal lot for further study and development.
