Three: Private J. Martin, Gloucestershire Regiment 1914-15 Star (13357 Pte. J.N. Martin. Glouc:R.); British War and Victory Medals (3008 Pte. J. Martin Glouc. R.), light verdigris, good very fine, with Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque ´Joseph Noah (sic) Martin´, with original medal enclosure slip, and photographic image of recipient (3) Estimate £ 110-130 13357 Private Joseph Noel Martin, born Cheltenham, ´enlisted in the 10th (Service) Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment in the town in September 1915 and was drafted to France on the 9th August 1915. The battalion War Diary for the period 2-8th May 1916 reports that the 10th Gloucesters were in Brigade Reserve at North Maroc, engaged in digging fatigues in the support and communication trenches near Double Crassier. Although no casualties were reported in the diary, Private Martin was probably killed by the random shelling and sniping which was a continuous hazard to troops in trench areas. He is buried in Maroc British Cemetery, Grenay. (Leaving All That Was Dear, refers).
