A Russian Hussar officer´s uniform of the Crimean War A deep blue jacket, edged and trimmed with narrow gold square-cord with black flecks, forming five loops each side in front with eyes and drops, fastened with plain gilt metal olivets, Austrian knots to sleeves, back-seam ornaments and plain shoulder-loops, all of the same cord, gilt buttons to shoulder-cords, with number 12, primrose lining, the inside pocket containing an envelope bearing the stamp of Ulster King of Arms and postmarked 4.12.1910, to Mrs Anstruther of Charleton, inside which is a manuscript note "The War from the Landing at Gallipoli to the Death of Lord Raglan by WH Russell, correspondent to The Times , London, George Routledge & Co, Farringdon Street, Page 193 Ch XXX: Action at McKenzie´s Farm ´a great number of very handsome hussar jackets, richly laced with silver and made of light blue cloth, which had (?) never been worn, were also taken, and sold by the soldiers for sums ranging from 20/- to 30/- apiece´ " See illustration Note: The Russian 12th Hussar regiment was one of those which took part in the Crimean War.
