The Superb and Extremely Rare Second War ´Immediate´ 6th June 1944 Normandy Landings M.M. Group of Five to Amphibious-Tank´s Commander Lance-Sergeant G.A. Hind, 13th/18th Hussars, Killed in Action in the Advance Up the River Seine, August 1944 a) Military Medal, G.VI.R. (7940055 Cpl. G.A. Hind. 13/18 H.) b) 1939-1945 Star c) France and Germany Star d) Defence and War Medals, nearly extremely fine (5) Estimate £ 4,500-5,500 M.M. London Gazette 31.8.1944 No. 7940055 Corporal George Alfred Hind, 13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary´s Own), Royal Armoured Corps (Nottingham) ´in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Normandy.´ The Recommendation states: ´On 6 June 1944 Cpl. Hind was Comd of a ´swimming tank´ in the assault on the beaches. Although the beach exits were not then marked this N.C.O. drove straight inland over supposed minefields with complete disregard for his own personal safety. His initiative and outstanding daring in the face of heavy fire and the hazards of the minefields instilled confidence into those around him and succeeded in lifting the Infantry on to their objective.´ 7940055 Lance-Sergeant George Alfred Hind, M.M., born Nottingham; served as a Tank Commander with ´A´ Squadron 13th/18th Royal Hussars during the Second War and landed in Normandy with his regiment in support of 3rd Infantry Division on Queen Beach, Sword Sector at 7.30am 6.4.1944; at 9.30am ´A´ Squadron in conjunction with the 1st Battalion South Lancashire Regiment captured Hermanville-sur-Mer; less than two months later Hind was killed in action during the advance up the river Seine, 5.8.1944, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial, France.
