An Officer´s Jacket of the 9th Lancers A good and extremely rare scarlet jacket, as described in 1834 Dress Regulations, with Lancer style gold embroidery to collar, cuffs and cuff-slashes, the latter with six small regimental buttons, made without piping in backseams or bullion "wasserfall" at rear (epaulettes missing) See illustration Note: This jacket was worn by John Anstruther-Thomson, who served with the 9th Lancers from circa 1834 until circa 1841, when he transferred to the 13th Light Dragoons. The absence of backseam-piping and wasserfall, and the slash-cuffs, corresponds exactly to the 1834 DRs. Later examples of the scarlet lancer jacket are normally found with piping and an integral gold/crimson girdle, and with the pointed cuffs more usually associated with lancer uniform.
