The Rare Great War Ypres 1917 ´Immediate´ M.M. Group of Three to Corporal W.E. Lister, Royal Air Force, Late Royal Flying Corps, Attached as a Wireless Operator For Ground to Air Spotter Aircraft Communication to 202 Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery a) Military Medal, G.V.R. (10220 1/Cl: A.M. W.E. Lister. No:7 Sqn: R.F.C.) b) British War and Victory Medals (10220. Cpl. W.E. Lister. R.A.F.), good very fine, with the associated miniature awards (3) Estimate £ 1,600-1,800 M.M. London Gazette 19.11.1917 10220 1st Cl. A./ Mech. W.E. Lister, R.F.C., attd. R.G.A. (Blackpool). The Recommendation states, ´For great courage, determination and devotion to duty. Near Ypres on August 17th 1917 1st A.M. Lister was receiving the wireless signals of an aeroplane with which the battery to which he was attached was carrying out a shoot. Twice during the shoot his wireless aerial was cut by hostile shell fire, but he repaired the damage without delay and the shoot was carried on without interruption. Although the dug-out in which he was receiving the wireless signals was hardly splinter proof, he remained in his position until directly ordered to leave it by the Battery Commander.´ Sergeant William Lister, M.M., born 1898, Bingley, Yorkshire; enlisted Air Mechanic Second Class Royal Flying Corps, 18.10.1915; served during the Great War with 7 Squadron Royal Flying Corps, attached No. 202 Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery on the Western Front, 2.5.1916-8.11.1918; Air Mechanic First Class 1.9.1916; Corporal 1.12.1917; Corporal Mechanic Royal Air Force 1.4.1918; Acting Sergeant 10.5.1919; discharged 26.7.1921. One of Approximately one hundred and sixty-eight M.M.´s awarded to the Royal Flying Corps.
