Colonel James Paul Bush, C.M.G., C.B.E., T.D., born Brislington, Bristol, 1857; educated at Clifton College, Bristol Medical School, Bristol Royal Infirmary, and University College Hospital, London. At Bristol Medical School he won the gold medals for Medicine and Surgery; M.R.C.S. 1881; L.S.A. 1882; Appointed Assistant Surgeon, Bristol Infirmary, 1885; Surgeon, Bristol Infirmary, 1889; Surgeon, Bristol Volunteer Rifles; served in South Africa as Senior Surgeon, Princess Christian Hospital, Natal Field Force; and Principal Medical Officer, Hospital Ship Lismore Castle; for his services in South Africa he was Mentioned in Despatches and appointed C.M.G. 1901; Appointed to command 2nd Southern General Hospital, Territorial Force, 1908; during the Great War 860 wounded and sick Belgian soldiers were admitted to the hospital, and for his treatment of them he was appointed an Officer of the Belgian Order of the Crown in 1919; proceeded to Etaples in command of No. 56 General Hospital, 20.4.1917 (Mentioned twice in Despatches); A.D.M.S., No. 2 Area, Southern Command, 8.8.1918. After the War Colonel Bush was a Deputy Lieutenant of Gloucestershire; he died 7.10.1930.
