A Troop Guidon of the Fifeshire Fencible Cavalry An exceptionally rare buff silk guidon of the 3rd Troop, painted with GiiiR cypher within a strap inscribed with the regimental title and an oakleaf wreath, between cartouches bearing the Horse of Hanover and oak/thistle sprays, the numeral 3 below (most fringe missing), on a partly-fluted pole with spearhead tip (metal sheared) and other mounts; together with a blue cloth guidon-belt with red edges trimmed with lace, and steel spring-clip (2)

Note: According to information kindly provided by Mr Philip Haythornthwaite, the Fifeshire Fencible Cavalry were formed in May 1794 as two troops under command of Colonel John Anstruther-Thomson. The establishment was increased to four troops in August 1795, and this guidon, being that of the 3rd Troop, must date from that year. Its colour matches that of the regimental facings as shown in Hamilton-Smith´s chart of c.1800.
As John Anstruther-Thomson was still Colonel of the FFC at its disbandment in 1800, this guidon, and the Regimental guidon offered in the next Lot, no doubt became his personal property.
