Miscellaneous Militaria etc An assortment including a Prussian Uhlan´s black and white cotton lance-pennon, 13in. x 28in., bearing various stamped markings and date 1911, together with a manuscript note Pennon taken from lance of German Uhlan Oct 1914 by Mervyn; a coloured print after a watercolour by Norman Wilkinson (and signed by him), depicting the landing by 32 Brigade on "B" Beach, Suvla Bay, on 7th August 1915; the headland of Nibrunesi Point is visible in the background and the troops coming ashore are probably from the 6th Yorkshire Regiment: an extract from "Who Was Who" on the back of the picture gives details of the artist, noting the publication "The Dardanelles - Colour Sketches from Gallipoli", 9in. x 14in., in gilt frame 14in. x 20 in. overall; a framed print of a painting by Caton Woodville "The Taking of the Guns", depicting a charge by the 9th Lancers, led by Captain FO Grenfell, at Moncel on 24th August 1914, in a glazed frame 21in. x 29in. overall, with a letter attached to the back by the Derby City Art Gallery, explaining the misapprehension under which Caton Woodville painted this action; and a WW1 era brass pocket compass "The Scout", by The Aldershot Stores, 25 Wellington St, Aldershot, in its velvet-lined leather case (3) Note: The "Mervyn" named as the captor of the Prussian lance was Captain Mervyn Crawshay of the 5th Dragoon Guards, who was killed in action on the 31st October 1914 (see "Bond of Sacrifice" for his obituary and photograph) Estimate £ 60-90
