2nd Foot Meritorious Service Cross for 10 Years´ Service, X incised on obverse, reverse engraved ´Queen´s Royal For Ten Years´ Meritorious Service to Patrick Smith´, lacking suspension, nearly very fine, Estimate £ 250-300 532 Colour Sergeant Patrick Smith, born County Kildare, Ireland, 1806; enlisted in the 2nd Foot, February 1825; promoted Corporal, January 1827; Sergeant, January 1828; served in India and Afghanistan and present at the capture of the fortress at Ghuznee, 23.7.1839, and at Khelat, 13.11.1839, where he was severely wounded in the left thigh; discharged as a result of his wound, June 1841, after 16 years and 131 days with the colours.
