Ft. 1840.); 2nd Foot Meritorious Service Cross for 6 Years´ Service, VI incised on obverse, reverse engraved ´Queen´s Royals For Meritorious Service Six Years´, unnamed as issued; 2nd Foot Meritorious Service Cross for 10 Years´ Service, X incised on obverse, reverse engraved ´Queen´s Royal For Ten Years´ Meritorious Service to John Collins´; 2nd Foot Regimental Best Shot Medal 1832, with central silver Paschal Lamb, reverse engraved ´Jno. Collins The Best Shot at 150 Yards Annual Practice 1837´, good fine or better (5) Estimate £ 1,000-1,200 147 Colour Sergeant John Collins, born St. Pennick, Cornwall, 1804; enlisted in the 2nd Foot, June 1821, aged 17; promoted Corporal, February 1828; Sergeant, September 1829; reverted to Private, March 1831; Corporal December 1833; Court Martialled and reduced to Private, 13.1.1837; re-instated to Corporal the following day, 14.1.1837; Sergeant, September 1839; Discharged September 1846 after 25 years and 105 days with the colours, of which 14 years were spent in India. The 2nd Foot, Queen´s Royal, Best Shot Medals were instituted in 1832 or earlier, and comprise a silver medal with a cast crown and straight bar suspension, with a diameter of 36mm. Three examples are known to exist- the two listed here, and the 1835 award to J. Farrel, which has a central silver-gilt Paschal Lamb.
