Assorted Swords A sword of the Virginia Military Institute, with 30in. straight double-edged blade, etched with the title and motto CONSILIO ET ANIMIS, dates 1839 and 1986, and name of original owner (the latter largely obliterated), gilt crosspiece, the ecusson cast with initials VMI, and pommel, simulated wire-winding to white metal grip, in its plated scabbard with gilt locket and chape; a replica Samurai sword, with 30in. cloud-edged blade, the grip covered with blue/gold woven artificial silk and bound in blue cord, decorative tsuba, ferrule, and pommel, all in gilt and blue enamel, in its lacquered scabbard, the upper section covered in same material as the grip, the metal mounts in gilt and enamel matching those on the sword; and a replica of a 17th Century sword, with straight 34in. cast with foliate decoration, crude steel hilt and sheet-metal guard, in a leather scabbard and with a brown leather baldrick(3) See illustration Estimate £ 200-300
