South Africa 1834-53 (J. Moriarty. Boatswain´s Mate.), claw tightened, light contact marks to obverse, therefore very fine, with contemporary ornate silver top riband bar Estimate £ 280-320 John Moriarty joined the Royal Navy as a Boy, 1833; Able Seaman 1838; served as Boatswain´s Mate in H.M.S. Radamanthus, during the Third Kaffir War (4.12.1850-6.2.1853). H.M.S. Radamanthus was the first War ship to reach the scene of the stricken H.M.S. Birkenhead, 29.2.1852.
