A Superb and Highly Unusual Victorian Campaign and M.S.M. Combination Group of Four to Colour Sergeant R. Bayfield, 43rd Foot South Africa 1834-53 (Robt. Bayfield, 43rd. Regt.), with unofficial ´South Africa´ clasp; Indian Mutiny 1857-58, no clasp (Serjt. Robt. Bayfield, 43rd. Lt. Infy.), suspension re-affixed, with unofficial ´Central India´ clasp; New Zealand 1845-66, dated 1863-1866 (2701 Cr. Sergt. Robt. Bayfield, 43rd. Lt. Inftry.), with unofficial ´New Zealand´ clasp; Meritorious Service Medal, V.R. (C: Sgt. R. Bayfield. 43 Foot.), last partly officially corrected, contact marks, generally very fine, the clasps all contemporary good-quality ´tailor´s-copy´ style and loose on riband, the campaign medals each with a contemporary silver (Hallmarks for Birmingham 1856) foliate top riband bar (4) Estimate £ 1,000-1,200 2701 Colour Sergeant Robert Bayfield, born Norwich, Norfolk; joined 43rd Foot, 1851; Corporal 1854; Sergeant 1857; Colour Sergeant 1863; transferred to permanent staff of the West Suffolk Militia 1869; discharged, 1872, after 21 years and 49 days service, including: two years and four months in the Cape of Good Hope; nine years and ten months in the East Indies; and two years and seven months in New Zealand.
