A Notable Africa General Service Kenya Medal to Second Lieutenant C.F.L. Boyce, Gloucestershire Regiment, Later Major, Gloucestershire Hussars, Who Ambushed a Large Mau Mau Splinter Group, and Inflicted a Number of Enemy Casualties, Including a ´Major-General´ Witch-Doctor, Which Resulted in the Surrender of Others, Including a Mau Mau ´Field Marshal´ Africa General Service 1902-56, E.II.R., one clasp, Kenya (2/Lt. C.F.L. Boyce. Glosters.), very fine, with a programme for the ´Borough of Cheltenham Conferment of Civic Honours upon The Gloucestershire Regiment in the presence of The Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment, Field Marshal His Royal Highness, The Duke of Gloucester, K.G., 9.10.1966´ Estimate £ 250-300 Major C.F.L. Boyce, commissioned Second Lieutenant Gloucestershire Regiment, 5.2.1955; was stationed with the 1st Battalion at Gilgil, Rift Valley, Kenya, during the Mau Mau Rebellion; took part in Operation "Rhino Lookout", with orders to clear the Mau Mau splinter groups from between the Kipiri and the Aberdares to the east and north of the mountain, 30.8.1955, ´An ambush by a party from "D" Company, commanded by Second Lieutenant Boyce, deserves mention. A gang was ambushed on a bridge. One (a "Major General" witch doctor) was killed and another wounded. The others scattered, some wounded, and got completely lost, as the ambush had killed their guide and they were in transit through the area, which was strange to them. Within ten days all the terrorists who had been shot at on the bridge were accounted for. Some were killed, others surrendered or were captured, including a Mau Mau "Field Marshal" (The Back Badge refers); Captain 1.2.1963; Acting Major Gloucestershire Hussars, 2.8.1965; retired 1968.
