Moore, Commanding 2nd Bombay Light Cavalry at the Storming and Capture of Magdala, Where He Was Mentioned in Despatches Abyssinia 1867-68 (Capt. C.A. Moore 2nd Bombay Light Cavy.), suspension loose, light scratch to reverse, otherwise nearly extremely fine Estimate £ 350-380 Major-General Charles Alfred Moore (1839-1925); born Bombay, India; having been nominated as a Cadet, was posted as 3rd Cornet 2nd Bombay Light Cavalry, 1857; Lieutenant 1858; served during the Indian Mutiny (1857-58) and commanded a detachment of the 2nd Bombay Light Cavalry at the taking of Awah; served in the Field Force in Central India, 1858; and at the night attack of the Khosias at Bhyranna and during the operations at Nuggur Parker; present during the operations in Kattywar and the taking of the Burda Hills and the defeat of the Wagheers at that place (entitled to medal and clasp); Adjutant 1858-60; Captain 1863; saw further service in Abyssinia (1867-68) as Officer Commanding the 2nd Bombay Light Cavalry at the storming and capture of Magdala, for the latter action he was mentioned in the despatches of Major General Sir Charles Stavely, Commanding the 1st Division of the Abyssinian Expeditionary Force, dated 16.6.1868; Lieutenant-Colonel 1880; retired Major-General 1895, and in later life was a native of Cheltenham.
