1897 New Currency Surcharges Large Figures Surcharge, Narrow Setting on Dowager First Print 2c. on 2ca. light green from the sheet with the surcharge centred low and right, well centred and bearing a light strike of Shanghai Dollar chop apparently dated 17 J(uly 1897); a few trivial age marks, a very collectable example of this stamp. Photo Estimate HK$ 20,000-25,000The centring of this surcharge matches that of the Bentley Glass example (John Bull, 2005) and is similar to the Eric Beckeman example (Sotheby´s and Corinphila, 1998). The majority of the used examples are cancelled by Shanghai Dollar chops, readable dates being late July 1897
