1897 New Currency Surcharges Small Figures Surcharge on Dowager First Print Covers 4c. Rate - Under 1/2 ounce 1897 (9 Feb.) envelope to Canton bearing 1c. on 1ca. vermilion in a vertical strip of four tied by pa-kua with "customs/chinkiang" c.d.s. in lower corner, the reverse with Shanghai Customs c.d.s. and a good strike of "imperial post office/canton" dated oval; some light soiling but an attractive cover and an early date being the second month of issue.
