1897 New Currency Surcharges Small Figures Surcharge on Dowager First Print 2c. on 2ca. green variety imperforate between horizontal pair, setting A, right pane [3-4], with full original gum; exceptional margins on two sides. Rare. S.G. 39b; Chan 39f. Photo Estimate HK$ 20,000-30,000The large dot in the lower frame line of the right hand stamp shows this pair is from pane 2. This is an underrated variety, we record only four pairs which appear to originate from two different sheets. There has probably been some distrust of this variety which could be manufactured from the imperforate vertically variety, of which 240 were issued. The centring of this surcharge is different from the equivalent pair of the imperf vertically variety
