Hong Kong Treaty Ports Canton 1838 (14 Aug.) entire letter to Huth & Co., rated "1/2" and bearing on flap (which opens well for display) boxed "india letter/plymouth" applied in error and overstruck by step-type "ship letter/plymouth" with a second strike alongside and London arrival (6/3). The contents are mostly about trade but includes " ... some explanations were made on the part of the Chinese Admiral to Admiral Maitland, which were deemed satisfactory and the ships of War returned to the station outside."; "Few of the letters pr Overland mail are yet recd.
