Hong Kong Postal History 1849 (16 Feb.) envelope and letter sent from H.M. Brig ´Mariner´ at Shanghae, addressed to Lincolnshire "via overland mail" and rated "2/-", sent via Malta where it was struck with a good strike of "purifie au lazaret/malte" in black; the reverse with London and Stafford arrival (31/5). The letter includes, " ... The Gates of Canton are to be opened in April, for the benefit of British Commerce - a disturbance in consequence is expected - such is the rumour.". Fresh and fine. Photo
