Maritime Wreck Covers of the World Europe 1852 (1 Nov.) S.S. "Adelaide", returned to Plymouth due to being in a leaky state, entire letter from Epsom to a passenger on board the S.S. "Melbourne" to be left at the Post Office in Melbourne awaiting collection but carried by the S.S. "Adelaide", rated "3" and "1/-" and showing superb "epsom" skeleton c.d.s. in blue, London Paid c.d.s. and, on reverse, Ship Letter Melbourne oval d.s. (12.5) in red. Photo Estimate £ 200-250Note: The S.S. "Adelaide" was a contract vessel of the Australian Royal Mail Steam Navigation Co. which only managed eight sailings before it´s contract was cancelled. She left Plymouth on 18 December 1852 but had to return for repairs as she was in a leaky state. She left again on 3 January and finally arrived in Melbourne on 11 May
