"Mormacpin", fire in No. 4 hold, eventually extinguished at New York, Ministry of Posts and Telegraphs envelope from Brazil to New York showing four-line "mail involved in fire aboard/ss mormacpin. mail received in/wet condition. inspector c.se/ny 30309" applied vertically at right, New York c.d.s. (16.4) on reverse. Photo Estimate £ 220-250Note: Following the fire the U.S. Coast Guard cutter "Half Moon" came alongside to assist but strong winds and 12-foot waves slammed the two vessels together. Half-flooded she travelled on to Bermuda where other holds were reported as smoking. She left Bermuda on 30 March for New York where fire in No. 4 hold was still found to be smouldering on arrival on 1 April. Fire finally extinguished on 2 April
